My Tribute to Jonathan Sandys

March 16, 1975 – December 29, 2018

JonathanIn the words of his beloved wife, Sara, Jonathan Sandys was “never still. Perpetual motion personified; always thrumming and humming with a vibrancy that illuminated the space he was in with joy and often threw off sparks and sometimes started fires, depending on which way the wind was blowing. “

Jonathan was best known for his total commitment to the memoryJonathan & Churchill and legacy of his great-grandfather, British statesman and prime minister Winston Churchill. He was devoted to what he believed was his life’s mission: the Churchill brand of leadership across every spectrum of society. His Twitter page (@ChurchillQuote) is a library of Churchill photos, quotes, and anecdotes of the statesman’s leadership philosophy. “We all have the capacity to Lead Like Churchill, with courage, faith and integrity,” he says. “We just need to understand Foundational Leadership, and the skills to draw the path to success.”

Our first connection
Can History Save NASA

I first met Jonathan after seeing his photo on the front cover of a local magazine in December 2010. I was already deeply involved as founder/CEO of the National Space & Technology Association (NSTA) in Houston. We were moving toward hosting global technology conferences in “Space City, USA!”

Under this momentum, we suddenly see this report of a fellow from England who has an idea for an interactive public museum in Houston dedicated to the history of the space program, portrayed through virtual technology. Crazy … but cool! I just had to meet this guy.

We connected on the phone. He invited Pam and me to a dinner at the Johnson Space Center where he was already engaged in pushing his idea of a virtual museum. From that point forward, we became close … very close!

As Godparents

Prior to the birth of his first-born son in 2014, Jonathan surprised Pam and me with a special request, asking if we would be the godparents of Jesse! This was a shock to us! Asked why he would make that request, his simple answer was: “Because if anything ever happened to Sara and me, I would want my son to be raised in a godly household, and I know he would get that with you and Pam!” WOW! What an honor that we cherish to this day.

Thank you!

Thank you, Jonathan Sandys, for being a part of our lives!

We thank the Lord for bringing you to us.

Say “hello” to Sir Winston for us, if you will. You made him very real to us all!

As a further tribute to Jonathan and his life’s work concerning his great-grandfather, may we highly recommend his book, “God & Churchill” (2015, Tyndale), available online at Amazon.com.

book
Joanne King Herring writes:

“Having witnessed firsthand how God moves to influence major events in the world for the good of His people, I cannot imagine anyone better suited to tell the story of God’s work in the life and times of Churchill than Churchill’s own flesh and blood. Jonathan Sandys brings an unparalleled vibrancy and perspective on the great man and his times. He and Wallace Henley have artfully woven together the best-known and most obscure pieces of history to present the beautiful and compelling tapestry that is ‘God & Churchill.’ An absolute must-read!”

James A Baker III

Former Secretary-of-State James A. Baker III writes in the Foreword of the book:

“History, as we know, has a way of repeating itself. As I write this foreword in 2015, we are again on the precipice of crisis as international terror threatens civilization. As Jonathan Sandys and Wallace Henley detail in these pages, we have much to learn from Churchill’s leadership in his chaotic times. I hope God & Churchill will inspire such a perspective and urgency in all who read it.”

Cal_Thomas

Conservative columnist and commentator Cal Thomas writes in the Preface:

God & Churchill is intensely relevant to our own times. Beliefs, worldviews, religion, and spirituality are at the heart of contemporary conflicts. To ignore this is to misunderstand the nature of our times. Worse, it is to be ill-equipped for the battles blazing across the globe. Such was Churchill’s world. Nonetheless, the similarities between Churchill’s day and ours are remarkable!

“The most intriguing issue Sandys and Henley explore — one that most Churchill authors dodge — is the role of God in the making of Winston Churchill … and it’s not merely the making of Winston Churchill that is in focus here, but more so the burning issues of civilization’s survival and the quality of leadership needed in our times for that struggle.”

Isaiah 18: To a Mystery Nation in a Distant Time

Isa 18 CoverIsa18_ToC

In this 7-verse chapter of Isaiah 18, we read of a nation that stands out among all others – a nation “shadowing (KJV) with whirring wings (NAS) ‘beyond’ the rivers of Ethiopia,” a land surrounded by water, whose people are “tall and smooth” (NAS, NIV) … “scattered and peeled” (KJV); “a nation of strange speech” (NIV); and a nation “whose land the rivers divide.”

These are extraordinary and unique identifiers for any particular nation, and it begs the question: What nation is this?

VIDEO: 10-second delay at opening

In these mere seven verses, we see a country that would grow strong, powerful, influential and impressive. We also see where, in the latter times, this land would be heavily judged by the Lord Himself to the point of brokenness, repentance and humility … resulting in a quick and full restoration just in time for the Lord’s Second Coming!

Read the story. Understand the times of the prophecy. Know the course by which a formerly godly nation is revived once again … just in time!

Cashless Society: A World Without Money

Cashless Society bookThis book, published in 1974 by the Southwest Radio Church in Oklahoma City, was Wally’s first book. Only 39 pages long, the book proved to be the outline for understanding how a world without money would be established in the future.

The Internet did not exist in 1974, yet Wally spoke of an eventual “central computer system” that would one day oversee every financial transaction we make — private individuals, companies, government … everybody. He called it Cencom. This system would eventually be attached to every gas pump, soda machine, and retail outlet everywhere. Without Cencom’s approval, no purchases would be allowed.

A plastic card with an electronic stripe on the back would replace the cash in our pocket. Cencom would know our identity by the use of that card.

“Rediscovering Holiness” Index Page

How to Define Holiness

Ch. 1 – “Defining Holiness”
What is it to be “Holy”? What does “Holy” look like, sound like, act like? Another word used interchangeably for “holy” is “sanctimonious.”

In this new series, we address the issue of “What is Holiness?” In doing so, we make some new discoveries about it that are intended to guide us in our life-long relationship with God. Click HERE for audio download (52min).

Ch.2-New Model_New Man

Ch. 2 – “NEW MODEL OF THE NEW MAN: The Marriage-Mindedness of Holiness”
2 Cor. 5:17 tells us that, in Christ, a person becomes a “new creation,” meaning we never existed prior to our new birth. No history! No past! How is that even possible? How can “ALL” things become new when we bring with us into this new relationship excess baggage of memories?

Here we look at the dynamics of romance. Something remarkable happens to an individual when they “happen upon” that special someone in their life. What happens in the life of one who, unexpectedly and suddenly, finds themselves caught in the “path of love” eventually becomes the “pattern of love” that changes them into a new person. We’re calling it the “Marriage-Mindedness of Holiness.” Click HERE for audio download (40min).

Ch.3-Appointed & Anointed

Ch. 3 – “Appointed, Then Anointed for Holiness”
Being new creatures in this new creation, we are truly free to be people totally different from what we were. In this new reality, we discover that as we are accepted and received by Him, He makes us “holy.” 1 Cor. 6:11 (NAS) — “you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified …” Upon our being accepted by Him, we are assigned (appointed) by Him unto Holiness. We are declared “a holy nation” by the One Who is Holy Himself (1Peter 2:9-10). As appointed, we are then anointed to do the Works of Holiness. We are endorsed and equipped to do what before was deemed by us as impossible. Click HERE for audio download (36min).

Ch. 4 – “From Humility to Meekness”
Entrance into the Kingdom of God in our earthly lives and into the welcoming arms of our Lord is no place for ego, pride, and ambition. In that embrace, He calls us “holy” (Prov. 10:12; James 5:20; 1 Peter 4:8). In His presence … in His arms … in His Kingdom … He takes total control. Because of the power of this kind of surrendered love on His part, we don’t ever want to leave. It is this embrace, this union, that remains constant throughout our walk on this earth. As we remain in submission before Him, yielding to His Love, His Wisdom, His Guidance, His Counsel, we mature in knowledge of His Ways in all things. We grow in Him. And it’s “the meek (who will) inherit the earth” (Mat. 5:5). Click HERE for audio download (42min).

Ch. 5 – “RANSOMED LIVES: Kept and Covered”
In 2 Peter 1:4, we read that the Lord has granted unto us His “precious and magnificent promises.” Some might even qualify as “shocking”! For further emphasis, David declares in Ps. 56:12, “Thy vows, O God, are binding upon me!”  Perhaps the most remarkable of His promises is found in His protection of us. To the righteous, the Lord promises unfettered protection and covering against those attacks that would threaten our lives. Isa. 43:3-4“Since you are precious in My sight, since you are honored and I love you, I will give other men in your place and other peoples in exchange for your life.

Ch. 6 – “REMITTANCE OF SINS: Cornerstone Doctrine of the Church”
As “Sons of Royalty” (1 John 3:1), we enter a process of training through which we are made “fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ … in everything.” (Eph. 4:13-15 MSG). Part of that training takes us back to the “cornerstone moment” when the Cornerstone Himself (Eph. 2:20) made a cornerstone declaration at the birthing of the Church in that Upper Room. In these last days, the Church needs to what we’re calling the Lord’s “Cornerstone Doctrine” that, once applied, would guarantee the gates of hell will never prevail (Mat. 16:18)!

Ch. 7 – “SONS OF ROYALTY: The Child of Royalty is Royalty Himself!”

Redemption declares a legal return to original ownership. It’s the act of being redeemed to a former state of existence and purpose. Renewed once again after having been lost, and then found again. If we were made by God, do we not belong to God? To be made by a maker is to be owned by that same maker! If that is true, then there was an original Purpose for which we were made, and that Purpose resides within Him — the Maker, the Creator. He had a Reason for our creation. What was that Purpose? Why were we made? Why does a king give birth? To bear  … heirs!

The child of royalty is raised to know who he is and what he has been born into. He is never allowed to forget that so that he may grow knowing exactly who he is as he learns to exercise rule in his father’s kingdom. Click HERE for audio download (63min.).

Ch. 8 – “The Power of Holiness”
To the righteous (holy), it is written: 2 Chron. 16:9 — “For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.”

This power is both encompassing (surrounding, covering) and empowering (imparted).

Click HERE for audio download (45min).

Ch. 9 – “The Significance of This Power”
The Power of God – granted unto the righteous for the use of His Glory – is not reserved for the immature in Christ (Lu. 9:54-56)! It is to those who have shown themselves to be firmly anchored in their faith, trust and dependency upon Him!

The significance of this power made available to us is no small thing to God. He honors it, exalts it and commands it! It leaves its mark on the earth and it resonates through Heaven itself!

Rediscovering Holiness

Rediscovering Holiness_Feature

“They will be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts, “on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.” So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him. – Malachi 3:17-18 (NAS)

In the “sunset portion of the prophetic day” (the end of the end-times), a day was coming when the Lord would begin preparing His “possession” for … what? I believe the answer is — His return!

In our own lives, we always make preparations for THE Big Day … no matter what that big day, or big event, might be. As we draw near to it, the more attention we give to it and our preparation for it. It could be a vacation … or the visit of a friend … or a party … Whatever it is, we always make preparation for its arrival because it’s different and (at that moment in time) more important than anything else that surrounds it.

For that “last” generation spoken of by Jesus in Mat. 24:33-34, special attention will be given to their preparation like none other that has ever gone before. This principle is addressed throughout end-time Bible prophecy.

It is in the context of this realization that I prepared and taught this series by this title. As the Lord prepares the world for His soon return, His “highest priority” is the holiness of His saints. Again — His highest priority is holiness! Why? Because He is coming for His bride who, because of her love for her King, has “has made herself ready” for His appearing (Rev. 19:7-8). He is holy and, therefore, she is holy (1 Peter 1:14-16).

So, what is holiness exactly? Believers have long believed (and non-believers as well) that “holiness” has something to do with being “sanctimonious” (a “holier-than-thou” mentality). Ask someone to describe “holiness,” and you are given descriptions of what holiness looks like and what holiness does. Attitude, behavior, conduct, presentation, conviction. While “holiness” may be depicted in each of these attributes and patterns, it’s not in any of these where is found the starting point for “holiness.”

Holiness begins in identity … not activity!

And this is where our study begins … (Click HERE for the Study Index page)

The Cry of a Man — the Centurion’s Story

The “Rest of the Story” behind the poem presented here —

It was just a few days before my 12th birthday in December 1962. A Sunday afternoon. We were home from church, had finished lunch, and the family was napping. I was cleaning the lunch dishes when my thoughts went to the Centurion at the cross. After a few moments imagining the scene, I “suddenly” sensed this poem rising up within me. I went to the den, got a tablet and pencil, sat down and began writing. I still, to this day, have the original tablet page with the penciled poem. Amazing!

The poem has been picked up and published in newspapers and magazines everywhere. It’s been dormant for many years … but, one Saturday night in 2015, in my sleep, I kept having visions of the black storyboard for this poem. It’s as if the Lord wanted this poem “resurrected” from the shadows in commemoration of “Resurrection Day” celebrations going forward.

So, here it is, in a renewed restoration of its own. Enjoy and be blessed.

“The Shaping of a Disciple”

Potter and clay[1].

 Dale Stone (1965)

When God wants to drill a man,

And thrill a man, and skill a man

To play for Him the noblest part —

When He yearns with all His heart

To build so great and bold a man

That all the world shall be amazed –

Then watch God’s methods, watch His ways!

How He ruthlessly perfects Scuplting

Whom He royally elects;

How He hammers him and hurts him,

And with mighty blows converts him,

Making shapes and forms which only

God Himself can understand,

Even while His man is crying,

Lifting a beseeching hand …

Yet God bends but never breaks

When man’s good He undertakes;

When He uses whom He chooses,

And with every purpose fuses

Man to act, and act to man,

As it was when He began;

When God tries His splendor out,

Then man will know what He’s about!
